The two temples of Abu Simbel, with their unique architectural style, are considered among the masterpieces of ancient Egypt. They reflect the glory and grandeur of the New Kingdom. In a remarkable international effort to preserve these treasures, the Egyptian government and UNESCO cooperated to relocate the temples and save them from the rising waters following the construction of the High Dam.
The Great Temple of Ramses II, also known as the Sun Temple of Ramses II, was dedicated to the four universal gods: Ptah, Re-Horakhty, Amun-Re, and Ramses II himself. The temple is famous for its impressive façade featuring the colossal statues of Ramses II.
You will also visit the Temple of Queen Nefertari, dedicated to Goddess Hathor, the goddess of love, music, and motherhood, and associated with the Sun God. The two temples form a remarkable symbolic connection between Ramses II, Queen Nefertari, Goddess Hathor, and the Sun God.
