Upon arrival, discover the magnificent Abu Simbel Temples, one of Egypt’s most extraordinary ancient monuments. The complex consists of two magnificent rock-cut temples: the Great Temple of Ramses II and the Temple of Queen Nefertari.
The temples were rediscovered in 1813 after centuries buried beneath the sand. In the 1960s, an extraordinary international rescue project led by the Egyptian government and UNESCO relocated both temples to higher ground to protect them from the rising waters of Lake Nasser following the construction of the Aswan High Dam.
Begin your visit at the impressive Great Temple of Ramses II, famous for its four colossal statues of the pharaoh carved into the mountainside. Explore its beautifully decorated interior and admire the ancient wall reliefs depicting Ramses II’s famous Battle of Kadesh, commemorating his military campaign against the Hittites.
Next, visit the beautiful Temple of Queen Nefertari, dedicated to the goddess Hathor and built by Ramses II in honor of his beloved wife, Queen Nefertari. Admire the remarkable statues and colorful reliefs that celebrate the queen and her special place in ancient Egyptian history.
After completing your visit to Abu Simbel, return to Aswan and enjoy some free time at leisure. Take a relaxing walk around the city, explore the local streets, or enjoy the beautiful views of the Nile before beginning your return journey.
