Your Holiday Escape representative will pick you up from your hotel and drive you in a modern, air-conditioned vehicle to Wadi El Natrun, one of the most important historic centers of Christian monasticism in Egypt and traditionally regarded as one of the birthplaces of Christian monastic life.
Wadi El Natrun was once home to approximately 50 monasteries, but only four have survived to the present day. During your tour, you will explore three of these remarkable monasteries and discover their rich spiritual, architectural, and historical heritage.
Begin your visit with Deir al-Baramus (Monastery of the Virgin Mary), the oldest of the four surviving monasteries and one of the most secluded. Explore its ancient churches, defensive structures, and unique monastic atmosphere.
Continue to Deir Anba Bishoy (Monastery of Saint Pishoy), one of the most important monasteries in Wadi El Natrun. The monastery is closely associated with Saint Pishoy, whose body is traditionally preserved there.
End your tour with a visit to Deir El-Suryani (Syrian Monastery), the smallest and most compact of the four surviving monasteries. Admire its historic churches, ancient artwork, and distinctive architectural details while learning about the monastery’s important role in Egypt’s Christian heritage.
After completing your visit, you will be transferred back to your hotel.
