Begin your tour with a visit to the El Alamein Military Museum, which features an impressive collection of weapons, military uniforms, photographs, maps, and tanks related to the battles of El Alamein. The museum also presents information about the major military leaders and the events that shaped the famous battles, including Field Marshal Bernard Montgomery and Field Marshal Erwin Rommel.
Continue to visit the World War II Cemeteries, located west of El Alamein on a small peninsula overlooking the Mediterranean Sea. These beautifully maintained memorial cemeteries are the final resting places of soldiers from several nations, including Commonwealth, Greek, Italian, and German forces who lost their lives during the battles.
Afterward, drive to Alexandria, Egypt’s historic Mediterranean city. Visit Pompey’s Pillar, one of Alexandria’s most famous ancient monuments and a remarkable surviving column from the Roman period.
Continue to the Qaitbay Citadel, viewed from outside, which was built on the site traditionally associated with the ancient Lighthouse of Alexandria, one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World.
Then visit the fascinating Catacombs of Kom El Shoqafa, one of Alexandria’s most important Roman-era archaeological sites. This remarkable underground necropolis consists of several levels carved into the rock and reflects a unique blend of Egyptian, Greek, and Roman artistic traditions.
