The temples were discovered in 1813, after having been almost completely buried beneath the desert sands. The Great Temple of Ramses II was built during the reign of the legendary pharaoh and celebrates his power and achievements. Inside the temple, magnificent reliefs depict important events from his reign, including scenes from the famous Battle of Kadesh.
Continue to the nearby Temple of Queen Nefertari, built by Ramses II in honor of his beloved wife and dedicated to the goddess Hathor. Admire its beautifully preserved statues, colorful reliefs, and remarkable architecture.
