At around 08:30 AM, your Holiday Escape representative and professional English-speaking tour guide will pick you up from your hotel or cruise ship at the designated exit point. You will travel in a modern, air-conditioned vehicle with complimentary bottled water for approximately one hour from Alexandria to Rosetta (Rashid).
Upon arrival, begin your tour at the Rashid Museum, housed in one of the city’s beautifully preserved traditional red-and-black brick buildings. Accompanied by your guide, explore the museum and discover a replica of the famous Rosetta Stone, inscribed in three scripts: Ancient Egyptian hieroglyphics, Demotic, and Ancient Greek. The original Rosetta Stone is currently displayed at the British Museum.
Continue with a walking tour through the charming narrow streets and local souq, where you can experience everyday life in Rosetta and see local vendors selling fresh bread, fruits, vegetables, fish, meat, and other traditional products.
Explore the city’s remarkable collection of preserved Ottoman-era houses, including the impressive Amasyali House, renowned for its ornate architectural details and considered one of the finest surviving examples of traditional Ottoman architecture in Rosetta.
Continue to the Mill of Abu Shaheen, an important historical site that provides insight into the commercial and domestic life of the city and its local community.
After exploring the historic houses, take a short walk with your guide to visit the Hanging Mosque, a unique mosque built on an elevated level, with storage and commercial spaces located beneath it.
Finally, take a short drive to the historic Qaitbay Citadel on the outskirts of Rosetta. Built around 1479, the citadel stands near the Nile and offers beautiful views toward the area where the river approaches the Mediterranean. Constructed as a defensive fortress against potential invasions from the Mediterranean, the citadel features impressive fortified walls and panoramic viewpoints.
After exploring the citadel, return toward Alexandria, with a stop for lunch and some time to relax before continuing back to your cruise ship or hotel.
